Bedwetting, Problems And Solutions
Bedwetting is something that a lot of younger children go through, and it can be difficult as a parent to know how to deal with it.The proper medical name for wetting the bed is enuresis. Many bedwetting accidents occur when younger children are learning to manage without a nappy and going to the toilet for the first time. But even if it carries on beyond this point there are various ways to make sure the problem is resolved.
Clearly the first thing to remember is that the child should not be punished for their bedwetting. The child will have no control over being able to get up, and so they do not reach the toilet in time.Berating the child could lead to even more instances of bedwetting, because of the stress involved. But there can also be other reasons for enuresis, such as a medical issue or infection.
Another way of helping children to naturally resolve any bedwetting issues is to make sure that they get into the habit of going to the toilet just before bed each night. A lot will depend on the age of the child though; for example if the bedwetting is occurring at the same time as potty training, simply go back to using nappies for a while.Older children can also start wetting the bed, and if this is the case it’s worth reducing the amount they drink before they go to sleep for the night.Don’t despair if your first attempt to stop the bedwetting doesn’t work – there are other things you can try.
Make sure you keep an eye on your child to watch for physical symptoms which could trigger the bedwetting.A urinary infection can make it painful to go, so be aware of any changes like this. Once treated this should put an end to the bedwetting and get things back to normal again. In other cases an alarm can be used to wake them up when they wet the bed, so that they are alert to the problem.
Your child will benefit from a positive attitude to the situation, regardless of why the bedwetting may have started. If they feel guilty or upset about wetting the bed, a negative attitude towards it can only make matters worse and the problem is then likely to last for a longer period of time.Bedwetting can be solved, so remember there is a lot you can do to successfully put an end to the situation. In the end most children will eventually be able to sleep all night and not wet the bed, as the problem will be no more than a temporary one.
